Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Estimating in Georgia

Steel tonnage takeoffs and cost estimates for structural steel, joists, metal deck, stairs, railings and miscellaneous metals — for Georgia fabricators, erectors and general contractors.

How is structural steel estimated?

Structural steel is estimated by weight: each member (beams, columns, braces) is listed by shape and length and multiplied by its weight per foot to get total tons. Connections, plates and bolts are added as a percentage or detailed count. Joists, metal deck, stairs, railings and miscellaneous metals are estimated separately, then fabrication, shop drawings, painting or galvanizing, delivery and erection are priced.

Overview

Tonnage, Deck and Misc. Metals — All in One Estimate

Steel prices can move quickly, so accurate tonnage is critical for bidding and buyout. We take off every member from structural drawings, calculate tonnage by shape, and separate joists, deck, stairs, railings, lintels and embeds.

Estimates are organized for fabricators (by piece and tonnage) and for general contractors (by system and installed cost).

Common Structural Steel & Metals Estimating Mistakes — and How We Avoid Them

Most lost margin in Structural Steel & Metals work comes from a handful of repeat mistakes. Our checklist-based takeoff and senior QA review are designed to catch them before your bid goes out:

  • Leaving out connection material and plates
  • Forgetting miscellaneous metals hidden in architectural details
  • Missing deck closures, pour stops and edge angles
  • Ignoring galvanizing or special coatings in the specs
  • Underestimating crane and erection access

What to send for this estimate: structural framing plans, details, architectural misc. metals details and specifications, plus addenda, the project address and your bid due date. If you want pricing with your own labor rates or supplier quotes, include those too — we’ll build them into the estimate. Send files through Contact Us.
